Hi. I’m Justin, a guitarist in the Tempe, Ariz.-based rock band Hung Dynasty. We inhabit the nether regions of the musical world, where we do battle with shady promoters, ramshackle stages, last-minute gigs and the notorious “creative differences.”
So what’s this blog about?
Every single week, something interesting happens to my band. I want to share all the entertaining hijinks that go on. I’ll sometimes change names to promote the guilty - sometimes. I’ll also share what I’ve learned from nearly 20 years of guitarin’, a steady stream of gigs and dealing with bandmates, finicky equipment and completely loony local music fans.
Why should I read about some third-rate rock band?
‘Cause we’re more entertaining than the relative spit-and-polish of the musical First World. ‘Cause we’re just like you, with jobs we sometimes have to endure to get to the fun. ‘Cause you can actually meet us at a gig and hang out with us. To quote The Shoveler from The Mystery Men:
“This is our fight, whether we like it or not. Just we few. We’re not your classic superheroes. We’re not the favorites. We’re the other guys. We’re the guys nobody ever bets on.”
Furthermore, I’d put us a touch closer to “fifth-rate”.
